STULZ launches TelAir 4 & WallAir 4

STULZ launches next generation TelAir and WallAir units for edge, 5G and critical infrastructure applications

STULZ, the global based mission critical air conditioning specialist, has introduced the fourth generation of its TelAir and WallAir cooling series. Engineered to meet the growing demands of 5G, edge and critical infrastructure applications, they combine low global warming potential (GWP) R454C refrigerant, integrated free cooling and a certified EN 378 safety architecture in a technical design focused on efficiency, reliability and future proofing.

Addressing rising thermal densities, as well as the strict requirements of the amended European F-Gas Regulation (EU) 2024/573, TelAir 4 and WallAir 4 provide reliable cooling for telecommunications containers, shelters, radio stations and edge data centers. There are two installation concepts to suit different infrastructure requirements.

Anika Do, global product manager at STULZ explained, ‘The TelAir 4 series is designed for indoor installation, while the WallAir 4 can be mounted externally on a container wall as a space saving monoblock solution. Both are available in two standard enclosure sizes and four cooling capacity classes, ranging from 6-17kW.’

Energy efficiency is central to the new design and in combined free cooling and mixed-mode operation, the TelAir and WallAir units can reduce operating costs by up to 80 per cent. Their built-in electronically commutated (EC) fans already comply with the strict requirements of the upcoming ErP 2027 Ecodesign Directive and both operate reliably across a wide temperature range, from -20°C to +54°C for TelAir 4 and -20°C to +54°C for WallAir 4. For extreme climates, an optional winter kit extends operation down to -40°C.

Customers can choose between classic on/off systems (TF/WF) that are equipped with a thermostatic expansion valve, or continuously modulating EC inverter compressors (TV/WV) paired with an electronic expansion valve. As standard, both configurations feature hermetically sealed refrigeration circuits for enhanced reliability.

Another key element is the EN 378 compliant multi-stage safety architecture developed specifically for low GWP safety class A2L (low flammability) refrigerants such as R454C. In both variants the evaporator fan is positioned at the bottom to quickly dilute and extract refrigerant gases in the event of a leak. A two-stage sensor system activates maximum fan speed and shuts down other power consumers at 10 percent of the lower flammability limit (LFL), while at 20 per cent LFL the unit is fully disconnected from the power supply. An enclosed IP54 control cabinet further eliminates potential ignition sources.

In terms of airflow, the TelAir 4 series supports both downflow and displacement concepts, with optional adjustable outlet grilles for targeted horizontal or vertical air distribution without mixing cold and warm air. WallAir 4 utilises the proven displacement principle for direct cold air stratification within the room, and TelAir 4’s in-wall installation provides protection against weather and vandalism, reducing noise emissions to levels suitable for use in sensitive residential and mixed-use areas.

STULZ has prioritised ease of use and its E² BASIC controller enables intuitive operation featuring an integrated Ethernet interface, Modbus and a wide range of inputs and outputs for seamless integration with building management and data center infrastructure management (DCIM) systems. Password protected access levels provide enhanced security, alongside dedicated inputs for monitoring fire, smoke and intrusion alarms.

‘For the fourth generation of the TelAir and WallAir cooling series, we set out to create two distinct cooling solutions that deliver outstanding flexibility across a wide range of edge, 5G and critical infrastructure applications,’ concluded Anika Do. ‘By combining cutting edge technology with modern design, ease of use, energy efficiency and reliability, we have achieved that goal. The new units are available to order immediately, with STULZ account managers able to provide further information and tailored advice.’
